Photo Opportunity

It was finally here – the day I was to have photos taken for my website. For most of my adult life, like many women, I have not liked having my photo taken. I pushed the photo session to the back of my mind while I did my morning’s work. Then I turned my attention to my appearance: make-up and clothing. How should I present myself?  What would feel good to wear? Caroline arrived and we made our way to the beach.

I hadn’t been to the beach since the start of the year and it was so good to walk on the sand and hear the song of the waves as they rolled onto the shoreline. We walked along the beach to find a good place to take photos and as we did, my shoes filled with sand! We found a great spot (Caroline has a good eye for these things) and got to work.

As I stood on the sand, I felt held by the Earth underneath me. The sun was warm and the ebb and flow of the sea was soothing and supportive. I let go of worries about my appearance and followed Caroline’s instructions to “do a qigong sequence”. It was so lovely to do some qigong by the sea (which I had never done before) and I could feel the chi on my hands as I went through some forms. I was transported to a place of quiet and stillness within. A truly lovely few minutes to feel peaceful and connected to everything around me. Then, we took a few minutes to sit and check the photos that Caroline had taken. Satisfied with the pictures, we walked slowly away from the glorious beach back home to a hot cup of tea and a slice of cake.
